Interview With Moseley
INTERVIEWER: When were you adopted by Mike and Meegan?

MOSELEY: I was adopted in May of 2001. I don't remember when my birthday is but the vet told me that I was 2 years old (in people years) when I was adopted. So, that makes me about 6 years old now.
INTERVIEWER: Did you have the name Moseley before you were adopted?

MOSELEY: My parents wanted to let me keep my given name of Brutus but I did not respond to that name. Even though I had my issues I was always a very sweet dog and the name Brutus didn't really fit. So, they decided to give me a new name. When Mom and Dad saw me for the first time I was jumping very high straight up in the air off my hind legs so that I could see over the wall of my cage. I also jumped up and spun in a complete circle from the end of my leash. This move reminded my parents of the "dinner roll" move that the freestyle skier Johnny Moseley performed and so they renamed me Moseley. Later I learned to do that move even when I am not on the leash. When my parents say, "big air" I do that move and I also do it whenever I am excited or I want to go for a walk or I want a treat. I am glad that I got a new name. Everyone thinks it is such a perfect name and everyone loves my "big air" move.
INTERVIEWER: You say that you had "issues." What were they?

MOSELEY: Well, I was a bolter. As soon as I was off a leash I would run and run and I would not come back. The only way I would get back home is that I would run into someone else's house and then they would call my parents to come and get me. It's not like I wanted to get away from my parents it is just that I am explorer, you know, and when they would chase after me I thought it was a game. I really did! You know like that game you people play called Hide-n-Go-Seek. One time I escaped a fenced-in area by jumping the fence; a neighbor caught me and, before I could be picked up by my parents, I escaped that place too. Another time I was running through traffic and along side streets. I saw an 80 year old woman walking a little dog. When she saw me galloping toward her, she picked up her little dog. My mom had to ask that scared woman to hold onto my collar so that she could catch me. That was when the party was over. The next day my parents enrolled me in dog training class.
INTERVIEWER: What happened next?

MOSELEY: Well, I went to class every week for 3 months. Every night my parents would practice their "homework" with me. They were very consistent with me. Even though I was stubborn, they never changed their expectations of me. So, finally I started paying attention to them and now I have more freedom than I did before, because I don t break the rules. Now I am a great "off leash" dog.
INTERVIEWER: Would you like to have a little sister or brother?

MOSELEY: Yep, yep, yep, yep, yep! (Moseley is currently doing his "big air" trick.) I am so gentle with little kids, and I never bark. (Pant pant pant) And those little kids smell so good!
INTERVIEWER: Is there anything you would like to tell us about your parents?

MOSELEY: They are way cool, and I love them soooo much. The only annoying thing that they do is dress me up for Halloween. But at least it is only one day per year.
